As you may know, M-Files is providing monthly release and the one for October is going to be interesting.

Since several month M-Files is heavily working on the integration of new Microsoft approach which is aligning desktop and web clients and thus dropping the COM support (add-in and so on).

M-Files is also following that trend, and decided to merge both clients, the Desktop and the M-Files Web.

This decision is more than logical, instead of having two separate codes to maintain and develop all the efforts are now only on one!

It will ease the maintenance, introduce new technology stack, accelerate the implementation of new features and for the end users it will provide consistent experience between both clients.

Great news for some people, Mac users will now have a full featured client they can run in a browser!

If you want to benefit of this new client you must have at least a server running in version June 24 (or higher) and using a gRPC connection to connect your vault.

However this October release is only the first step to the new M-Files experience, you will be able to discover the new look and feel and use the most common functionalities. but all the actions possible in the current M-Files desktop will not be available and we have to wait for the next release to see the “advanced” features appeared. The feature comparison is available here.

If you need any advice don’t hesitate to contact us.

I can’t wait to play with all the new stuffs!
