<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-challenge-modern-data-complexity"><strong>The Challenge: Modern Data Complexity</strong></h2>

<p>As businesses scale, so do their data environments. With hybrid cloud adoption, legacy system migrations, and stricter compliance requirements, IT teams must ensure test environments are:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Quickly available</li>

<li>Secure and compliant</li>

<li>Accurate mirrors of production environments</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-solution-delphix-amp-omrun"><strong>The Solution: Delphix &amp; OMrun</strong></h2>

<p>Also for your heterogenouse data storage technology, Delphix and OMrun provide a seamless way to virtualize, anonymize and validate your test data securely and fast.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="892" height="336" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Solution_Delphix_OMrun.png" alt="" class="wp-image-38114" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Solution_Delphix_OMrun.png 892w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Solution_Delphix_OMrun-300x113.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Solution_Delphix_OMrun-768x289.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 892px) 100vw, 892px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-virtualize-with-delphix-fast-efficient-and-agile"><strong>Virtualize with Delphix: Fast, Efficient, and Agile</strong></h2>

<p>Delphix replaces slow, storage-heavy physical test environments with virtualized data environments. Here’s what makes it a major advance:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="511" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-1024x511.png" alt="" class="wp-image-38134" style="width:673px;height:auto" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-1024x511.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-300x150.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-768x383.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-1536x767.png 1536w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/04/Virtualized-6-2048x1023.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><br>In many cases, you need a data migration from an existing on-premises databases to the cloud. Not only is it necessary to move your data, but often you also need to change the technology stack. In addition, it is very important to ensure that all records have been transferred correctly. OMrun is the ideal tool to achieve these goals with as little effort as possible.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-your-data-migration-from-on-premise-to-cloud-in-three-steps">Your data migration from on-premise to cloud in three steps</h2>

<p id="tw-target-text">In this article, we will focus on step 3 from the diagram. We already discussed step 1 and 2 in the previous blog <a href="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/data-staging-with-omrun-migration-part1/">Migration (part I)</a>. In Step 4, you&#8217;ll learn how to ensure data migration quality with the <a href="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/database-one-to-one-migration-check-with-omrun/">One-to-one-migration check</a>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-step-1-select-data-migration-table-list-from-sql-server">Step 1 &#8211; Select data migration table list from SQL Server</h3>

<p><br>The system reads all necessary information from the source database using a generic SQL script. It generates a list of schema and table names and prepares them for later use in the migration tool.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-11-1024x470.png" alt="Query for data migration tool" class="wp-image-23396" width="841" height="385" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-11-1024x470.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-11-300x138.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-11-768x352.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-11.png 1471w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Query to select tables to migrate</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-step-2-build-a-sql-server-postgresql-data-migration-list">Step 2 &#8211; Build a SQL Server / PostgreSQL data migration list</h3>

<p>A runtime list generator prepares the data migration tool parameters, based on the source tables. Because of this information, it is possible to migrate each table and its content from the source to the target database.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="496" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-5-1024x496.png" alt="runtime list generator" class="wp-image-23333" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-5-1024x496.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-5-300x145.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-5-768x372.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-5.png 1314w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Createing table list for migrate MS SQL to PostgreSQL</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-step-3-migrate-all-data-table-from-source-to-target">Step 3 &#8211; Migrate all data table from source to target</h3>

<p id="tw-target-text">The built-in data migration tool is the core element of this process. It is able to create an exact 1:1 copy of the source database within the technology stack of the target database. Because of using the runtime list generated from step 2, it can read all necessary information from each data table, e.g. table name, column name, data type and primary key definition and transforms and loads them into the target database (MS SQL to PostgeSQL).</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="470" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-12-1024x470.png" alt="data migration tool" class="wp-image-23398" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-12-1024x470.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-12-300x138.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-12-768x352.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/03/image-12.png 1473w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Data migration tool</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-data-verification">Data Verification</h2>

<p id="tw-target-text">Although the data migration tools are very sophisticated these days, there is still a chance that something will go wrong during the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extract,_transform,_load">ETL </a>(extract, transform, load) process. A full comparison of the content of the source and target databases identifies any <a href="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/database-one-to-one-migration-check-with-omrun/">quality issues</a> in the data migration.<br>The test results shown below represent two different basic problems.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Truncated end of string or improperly updated old existing data.</li>

<li>Missing record in target database.</li>
</ul>

<p>The compare module checks every record and attribute within a table from source (A) with target (B). Therefore it detects any difference on the data migration content. OMrun will create automatically a Diff-Report (Excel) and prepares it for download.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="249" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-1024x249.png" alt="old data" class="wp-image-27062" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-1024x249.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-300x73.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-768x187.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image.png 1047w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Improperly updated old data</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="227" src="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-2-1024x227.png" alt="missing record" class="wp-image-27065" srcset="https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-2-1024x227.png 1024w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-2-300x67.png 300w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-2-768x170.png 768w, https://www.dbi-services.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/08/image-2.png 1168w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Missing record in target database</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-conclusion">Conclusion</h2>

<p id="tw-target-text">If you are the owner of a system with many microservice databases and you are responible for the data migration from your own premises to a cloud provider, and in addition you are facing a database technology change, OMrun is the right tool for you. With its highly automated processes and quality checks of data migrations, it saves you a lot of trouble in your critical project phase. If you set up your new infrastructure in the cloud with our Yak, you are definitely on the safe side.</p>

<p id="tw-target-text">The various data loading processes are orchestrated with the OMrun test scenario. Based on the selected file type, the database table is generated and the corresponding data is loaded. The SQL query is automatically created and saved during the staging process. The stored queries are reusable to gather data from the staged tables within other test objects.</p>
