Event « How open source drives innovation »

24.10.19 in Zurich

The era of digitalization drives many companies to ask themselves what turning points shouldn’t be missed, and which solutions drive innovation. In this context, open source is becoming more and more important. In order to get a better understanding of this technological change, we invite you to spend a few hours with two open source pioneers who honor us with their presence in Switzerland and will share their point of view with us. Have we aroused your curiosity?

We hope so and look forward to seeing you in Zurich on October 24, 2019.

The Democratization of Databases

Presented by :

  • Bruce Momjian, Senior Database Architect at Enterprise DB

This presentation covers the history of various governing structures and why democracy provides superior results. It then explains that open source is a form of democracy, compared to the methods used by proprietary software producers. It covers the many benefits Postgres has enjoyed using an open development model, and how its future remains bright.

Smart is Open - Open is Smart

Presented by :

  • Jan Wildeboer, Red Hat Evangelist

I won’t say anything more about it for now, but I am looking forward to telling you the rest during my session.

How open source evolved within dbi services

Presented by :

  • Hervé Schweitzer, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Principal Consultant at dbi services.
  • Daniel Westermann, Technology Leader Open Infrastructure and Principal Consultant

When founded in 2010, dbi services’ portfolio included only Oracle Consulting, Training and SLA.
Microsoft and Middleware products were added shortly after but it took a few more years to set up a team fully dedicated to Open Source technologies.
From that moment on, the business in this particular area grew constantly and still continues to grow. One thing is certain: dbi services couldn’t have stayed ahead of its competitors without providing strong expertise in Open Source solutions.

In this session, we’ll be more specific about Open Source’s history at dbi services. We will explain how it all started, how it evolved, where we stand today and what our plans for the future are”.
