I also administer more and more Postgres databases. I decided to download the Blue Medora plugin in order to monitor the postgresql databases with Enterprise Manager 13c, and to avoid to have different monitoring tools for each kinf of database.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have downloaded the Blue Medora plugin for EM13c, you have to unzip it:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: actionscript3; gutter: false; first-line: 1\">oracle@vmtestoraCC13c:\/home\/oracle\/psi\/ [rdbms12102] unzip bm.em.xpgs_12.1.0.2.0_2.0.3.zip\nArchive:\u00a0 bm.em.xpgs_12.1.0.2.0_2.0.3.zip\n\u00a0 inflating: bm.em.xpgs_12.1.0.2.0_2.0.3.opar\n......\n\n<\/pre>\n<p>Then like other plugins, you have to import it in the OMS (Oracle Management Server):<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: false; first-line: 1\">oracle@vmtestoraCC13c:\/home\/oracle\/psi\/ [oms13c] emcli import_update\n -file=\/home\/oracle\/psi\/bm.em.xpgs_12.1.0.2.0_2.0.3.opar -omslocal\nProcessing update: Plug-in - PostgreSQL Monitoring\nSuccessfully uploaded the update to Enterprise Manager. \nUse the Self Update Console to manage this update.<\/pre>\n<p>Once imported, from the Extensibility plugin page, we can display the PostgreSQL plugin:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9029\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp1.png\" alt=\"pp1\" width=\"383\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have to deploy the plugin to the OMS:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9030\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp2.png\" alt=\"pp2\" width=\"483\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next step consists now to deploy the plugin on an agent where there is an existing postgres environment, we select the adequate agent and we select Continue:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9031\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp3.png\" alt=\"pp3\" width=\"252\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The postgresql plugin is successfully deployed to the agent:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp4.png\" alt=\"pp4\" width=\"517\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the plugin is deployed, we need to add a postgres database target. I used the Add Target Declaratively and choosed Postgresql Database as Target Type:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp5.png\" alt=\"pp5\" width=\"358\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the next screen you enter the target name and useful informations such as hostname, login, password and port number:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9035\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp6.png\" alt=\"pp6\" width=\"358\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally the postgresql database target has been added successfully:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9036\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp7.png\" alt=\"pp7\" width=\"360\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the configuration phase finished, let\u2019s have a look over how EM13c works with postgresql !<\/p>\n<p>The newly postgresql database target exist in EM13c:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9038\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp8.png\" alt=\"pp8\" width=\"215\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have the same menus as we are used for Oracle database targets:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp18.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp18.png\" alt=\"pp18\" width=\"210\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s try to create a monitoring template for postgresql database. From the EM13c Monitoring template menu, choose create:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9039\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp9.png\" alt=\"pp9\" width=\"291\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Choose Target Type and select PosgreSQL database:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp10.png\" alt=\"pp10\" width=\"332\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enter the monitoring template name and a description:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9041\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp11.png\" alt=\"pp11\" width=\"349\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You have the possibility to define thresholds for metrics:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9042\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp12.png\" alt=\"pp12\" width=\"537\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Select Ok and the DBI_DB_POSTGRES is created.<\/p>\n<p>Finally we apply the template to our postgres database as follows, we select the postgressql database and we select Apply:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp13.png\" alt=\"pp13\" width=\"555\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Home postgres EM13c page displays more informations:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp141.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp141.png\" alt=\"pp14\" width=\"600\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The postgresql monitoring offers a lot of monitoring solutions:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp1611.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp1611.png\" alt=\"pp161\" width=\"327\" height=\"387\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We have the possibility to diplay the table or indices details:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp15.png\" alt=\"pp15\" width=\"454\" height=\"402\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another good point is the possibility to use the reports. For example the target availability:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp17.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9051\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp17.png\" alt=\"pp17\" width=\"605\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also create incident rules in the same way you did it for Oracle databases. Creating incident rules about Availability, Metric Alert or Metric Errors allows you the possibility to have incidents created and to receive alerts when something goes wrong in your posgresql database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9052\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp16.png\" alt=\"pp16\" width=\"411\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you have correctly configured your incident rules and their events, when you stop your postgres database, an incident is created and you receive a mail :=)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp19.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9054\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/pp19.png\" alt=\"pp19\" width=\"376\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deploying the Blue Medora&#8217;s plugin in order to administer your postgresql databases withe Enterprise Manager 13c will help you to administer heteregeneous databases environment.
