1.4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The msi package is 10 MB and is named SqlAdvisor.<br \/>\nRun the msi and follow the steps like every time&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7482 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-01.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 01\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the installation, it is easy to search the upgrade advisor tool in the search bar<\/p>\n<p><a parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scenarios<\/li>\n<li>Active<\/li>\n<li>Others icons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Scenarios<\/h3>\n<p>Scenarios is the first menu and has what you can do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7485 aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Migrate to Azure SQL Database<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cMigrate to Azure SQL Database\u201d is the first one and analyze selected databases to see if there are able to migrate in the Cloud<\/p>\n<p>To migrate to Azure, you must create an<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/sql-database\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Azure SQL Database server<\/a> and not a Virtual Machine in Azure like me at the beginning&#8230; \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Steps are really clear and you must just follow&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Step 1:<\/em> <\/strong>connect to your instance with the databases to migrate<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7487 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-04.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 04\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Step 2:<\/strong><\/em> select databases and run the analysis<\/p>\n<p>In the analysis result, you have the possibility to save the migration script in .sql<\/p>\n<p>I recommend to do it every time especially if it is a Production database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-20.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7503 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-20.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 20\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Step 3:<\/strong><\/em> Select the target<\/p>\n<p>The first time that I tested, I created a VM in Azure and I tried to connect with the RDP link generated&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-23.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7507 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-23.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 23\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But as you can see on the picture, I obtain an error 40.<\/p>\n<p>I created an Azure SQL Database and I connected to my &#8220;Azure instance&#8221; and I selected it<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-24.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7508 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-24.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 24\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Step4:<\/strong><\/em> Migrate the database<\/p>\n<p>The button &#8220;Migrate&#8221; is now enabled<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-25.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7509 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-25.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 25\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Run Migrate and then the migration process begin\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-26.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7510 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-26.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 26\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see in this picture, the first step is the creation of the database, then all objects will be created.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-27.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7511 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-27.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 27\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And at the end, you have the message \u201cSuccessfully databases in 15 seconds\u201d if it is finished.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-28.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7512 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-28.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 28\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can connect you to the cloud with SQL Server Management Studio to control if your database has been migrated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-29.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7513 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-29.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 29\" width=\"283\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Run In-Memory OLTP and Columnstore Advisor<\/h4>\n<p>This is the second Advisor and analyzes databases to be candidate to use the In-Memory OLTP and Columnstore.technolgies<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-05.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7488 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-05.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 05\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can choose all databases or just a specific database<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-06.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7489 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-06.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 06\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Run the Advisor and then you can see the recommendations per database<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-08.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7491 aligncenter\" Database Advisor<\/h4>\n<p>This advisor is for the new feature in SQL Server 2016: stretch database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-28.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7512 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-28.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 28\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You select databases and run the advisor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-30.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7514 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-30.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 30\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the result, you can have some issues to be fixed to be able to migrate your database.<\/p>\n<p>You have also the possibility to run a cost estimator to see the potential cost in the Cloud for your database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-31.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" 31\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Analyze and migrate to SQL Server<\/h4>\n<p>The last advisor is the \u201cclassical\u201d SQL server upgrade advisor from one version to another.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-7495 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/Upgrade-advisor-12.png\" alt=\"Upgrade advisor 12\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you run migrate, you select a backup folder to migrate to a new instance as destination and then you can migrate selected databases.<\/p>\n<p><a
