<em>Why, Why, Why?<\/em><br \/>\nMy first step for this analysis, is to see in the SSISDB, the Disk Usage by Table Reports from SSMS.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4356 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_01.png\" alt=\"SSISDB_Size_01\" width=\"267\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI see that table internal.execution_component_phases is the biggest.<br \/>\nI select in this table what are the packages and how many entries per package I have in this table&#8230;<br \/>\nQuery used:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">select distinct package_name, count(*) as number_of_entry from internal.execution_component_phases group by package_name<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4357 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_02.png\" alt=\"SSISDB_Size_02\" width=\"300\" height=\"82\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my case, the &#8220;Package1.dtsx&#8221; has 3756828 entries.<br \/>\nI go deeper with this package and search how many entries I have with my package per execution.<br \/>\nQuery used:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">select distinct execution_id, count(*) from internal.execution_component_phases where package_name='package1.dtsx' group by execution_id<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4358 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_03.png\" alt=\"SSISDB_Size_03\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is for each execution almost the same.<br \/>\nI guess it comes from an execution parameter.<br \/>\nI select all parameters from one execution (id=719).<br \/>\nQuery used:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">SELECT * FROM catalog.execution_parameter_values where execution_id = 719<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4359 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_04.png\" alt=\"SSISDB_Size_04\" width=\"300\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I see in my result, that the LOGGING_LEVEL is set to 2 and not 1 the default value&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>To confirm my theory, I check this parameter for all executions.<br \/>\nQuery used:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">SELECT distinct ecp.execution_id, epv.parameter_name,epv.parameter_value\nFROM catalog.execution_parameter_values epv inner join internal.execution_component_phases ecp\non ecp.execution_id=epv.execution_id where epv.parameter_name='LOGGING_LEVEL'<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_05.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4360 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SSISDB_Size_05.png\" alt=\"SSISDB_Size_05\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And as you can see, the LOGGING_LEVEL is always set to 2.<\/p>\n<p>What is the signification of a LOGGING_LEVEL=2?<br \/>\nI go directly to the msdn to read the logging level on \u201c<a title=\"Enable Logging for Package Execution on SSIS Server\" href=\"https:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh231191.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Enable Logging for Package Execution on the SSIS Server<\/a>\u201d<br \/>\nIn the documentation, you can read that the Logging Level \u201cPerformance\u201d is linked to the <a title=\"catalog.execution_component-phases\" href=\"https:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh230981.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">catalog.execution_component_phases<\/a> and\u00a0 the start and end times for the data flow components are logged for each phase of an execution. But this view is also available for the logging level \u201cVerbose\u201d\u2026<br \/>\nIn this webpage, I haven\u2019t the match between the logging level and its number.<br \/>\nI find the match in the webpage from the \u201c<a title=\"catalog.set_execution_parameter_value\" href=\"https:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/ff877990.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">catalog.set_execution_parameter_value<\/a>\u201d and see that the 2 is the \u201cPerformance\u201d Logging level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong> I contacted the package owner and explained him the case. I asked him why this level of logging and he said me that he thought that was to have performance\u2026 He didn\u2019t read correctly the documentation!<br \/>\nAfter the explanation of the logging level set to performance, he changed the logging level to Basic and the SSISDB grew normally again. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In all blogs that I read, the solution is just to change the retention period to a reasonable value.
