In-Memory OLTP is fully integrated with AlwaysOn and also with AlwaysOn Availability Group. During my test with AlwaysOn Availability Group under SQL Server 2014 CTP2, I discovered that a Readable Secondary Replica was not able to access In-Memory OLTP objects.<\/p>\n<p>I have a Readable Secondary Replica named pc1 with a database containing two tables, one disk table and one In-Memory table:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"AG1.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/99\/AG1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_AG1.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I try to query the disk table to know how many rows it contains, I have this result:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"AG2.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/99\/AG2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_AG2.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG2.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But if I try to access my In-Memory table it fails&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"AG3.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/99\/AG3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG3.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_AG3.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG3.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apparently it is impossible to access In-Memory objects from a Readable Secondary replica&#8230;<br \/>\nBad news! Readable Secondary functionality is very interesting for reporting, but if we cannot query all objects from our database, it is really restricted&#8230;<br \/>\nAfter some research, I found the solution. A trace flag will solve this issue.<br \/>\nTo enable it you have, there are two solutions, as usual:<\/p>\n<p><strong>With SQL Server Configuration Manager:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open it<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to SQL Server Services<\/li>\n<li>Right click on your SQL Server instance name and select Properties<\/li>\n<li>In pane &#8220;Startup Parameters&#8221;, specify a startup parameter, here: -T9989<\/li>\n<li>Click the Add button and Apply<\/li>\n<li>You will have to restart your SQL Server Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"AG4.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/99\/AG4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG4.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_AG4.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG4.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Via script:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Open a new query screen<\/li>\n<li>Type: DBCC TRACEON(9989,-1) to enable the trace flag for the complete instance<\/li>\n<li>Type: DBCC TRACEON(9989) to enable the trace flag for the current session<\/li>\n<li>Execute the script<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, our new trace flag is enabled and we are able to query Memory Optimized Tables and also to use Natively Compiled Stored Procedure:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"AG5.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/99\/AG5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG5.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_AG5.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_AG5.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, there is a way to bypass this restriction and to use the full functionality of Readable Secondary.<br \/>\nI will try to go through all new available trace flags for SQL Server 2014 in the following blog postings \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In-Memory OLTP is one of the best new functionalities of SQL Server 2014 as it was the case with AlwaysOn and SQL Server 2012.
