the customer contact me for a error about \u201c<strong>conversion of a varchar data type to datetime data type<\/strong>\u201d on this application.<br>The error was an log4net:exception and without more explanation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"19\" I perform a backup\/restore, the collation on both servers is the same and I don\u2019t figure out what is the problem\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34780\" style=\"width:77px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-7.png 299w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-7-296x300.png 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>I searching the difference between both environment with the server configuration, the instance configuration and the database configuration.<br>The last point was the SQL Login configuration and I see that the default language was not the same.<br>The source has <strong>German-Deutsch<\/strong> and destination has <strong>us_english<\/strong> because my login migration script does not take care on the language\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be sure to have the answer to this case, I tested it on my lab\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I create a simple database Test_DefLang &nbsp;and a simple table test with text and datetime datatype:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"933\" height=\"356\" https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-1-300x114.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-1-768x293.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 933px) 100vw, 933px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I create 2 SQL Logins for this databases with the role db_owner.<br>The only difference between both login is the default language:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"939\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-2.png 939w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-2-300x122.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-2-768x313.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I connect with the SQL Login Test_DefLang_EN and try different insert with date format:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"939\" height=\"592\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34776\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-3.png 939w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-3-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-3-768x484.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see in the screenshot, we have 3, the message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6e317a6e47ba51b02a9b0d6182deef8d\"><em>Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 7<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0148d46f76c862bcd4c5301a3ea2e2eb\"><em>The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This message comes when the date has a format \u201cdd mm yyyy\u201d with a separator.<br>The format \u201cyyyy mm dd\u201d with the same separator is inserted in the table without problem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34777\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-4.png 940w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-4-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-4-768x534.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, I do the test with the German default language Login Test_DefLang_DE with the same insert script:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"939\" height=\"547\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34778\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-5.png 939w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-5-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-5-768x447.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see with this login (Default Language in German), it\u2019s the opposite here.<br>The error message comes when the date has a format \u201cyyyy mm dd\u201d with a separator.<br>The format \u201cdd mm yyyy\u201d with the same separator is inserted in the table without problem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/image-6-768x541.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, you see the importance of the default language in simple example and the problem &amp; error that you can have if you don\u2019t take care during a migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope this experience can help you
