In the recent past, converting an internet table to Excel was a nasty work leading to format problems, implicit conversions, etc. With Power Query, importing tables from the internet is very easy!<\/p>\n<h3>What is Power Query?<\/h3>\n<p>Power Query is a tool based on the concept of Power BI (more on this tool <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerbi.com\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Power BI is composed of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PowerPivot<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first version was introduced with SQL Server 2008 R2. PowerPivot allows for self-service data modeling.<br \/>\n(Msdn link <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/fr-fr\/library\/ee210644.aspx\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Power View<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Part of SQL Server 2012 &#8220;Reporting Services&#8221;, Power View allows for ad hoc, self-service data visualization.<br \/>\n(Msdn link <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh213579.aspx\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Power Map<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The &#8220;GeoFlow&#8221; project is now called Power Map. This tool makes it extremely easy to view data containing almost any geographical attributes.<br \/>\n(Msdn link <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/mspowerutilities\/archive\/2013\/09\/26\/project-geoflow-now-called-power-map.aspx\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Power Query<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Power query allows data to be imported into PowerPivot data models from different sources<br \/>\n(Msdn link <a href=\"http:\/\/office.microsoft.com\/en-us\/excel-help\/microsoft-power-query-for-excel-help-HA104003813.aspx\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s see how to install this last one.<\/p>\n<h3>Installation<\/h3>\n<p>You can download the msi file (~8 MB) on the Microsoft website for Excel 2013\/2010 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=39379\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The supported Office versions are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Office 2013 Professional Plus<\/li>\n<li>Office 365 ProPlus<\/li>\n<li>Excel 2013 Standalone<\/li>\n<li>Office 2010 Professional Plus (with Software Assurance for Office Professional Plus through Volume Licensing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is available for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Execute the msi package to install it:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"PoweQuery02.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/88\/PoweQuery02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery02.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery02.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery02.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Excel must be stopped to install this add-on:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"PoweQuery01.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/88\/PoweQuery01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery01.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery01.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery01.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And now, after the installation, I have to reopen Excel to continue my presentation.<\/p>\n<h3>How does it work?<\/h3>\n<p>In Excel, I have a new tab named &#8220;Power Query&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"PoweQuery03.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/88\/PoweQuery03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery03.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery03.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery03.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today, I will import all Avengers character heroes from Wikipedia to my Excel sheet:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"easyblog-thumb-preview\" title=\"PoweQuery04b.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/dbi-services.com\/blog\/images\/easyblog_images\/88\/PoweQuery04b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery04b.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery04b.jpg\" alt=\"b2ap3_thumbnail_PoweQuery04b.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click on icon &#8220;From Web&#8221;
