decide to create a query to know it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">SELECT session_id as SPID, command, a.text AS Query, start_time, percent_complete, dateadd(second,estimated_completion_time\/1000, getdate()) as\nestimated_completion_time<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: revert;background-color: initial;font-family: inherit;color: initial\">FROM <span style=\"font-size: revert;background-color: initial;font-family: inherit;color: initial\">sys.dm_exec_requests r CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(r.sql_handle) a<\/span><\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;line-height:107%;,sans-serif\">WHERE r.command like 'DBCC%'<\/span><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>This query is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/relational-databases\/system-dynamic-management-views\/sys-dm-exec-requests-transact-sql?view=sql-server-ver16\">sys.dm_exec_requests<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/relational-databases\/system-dynamic-management-views\/sys-dm-exec-sql-text-transact-sql?view=sql-server-ver16\">sys.dm_exec_sql_text<\/a>.<br>The useful columns are the 2 last one with the percent_complete and the estimated_completion_time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" query running already 15 minutes for 75% done and finish in 5-6 minutes\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, it\u2019s a good news, the shrink finish soon\u2026But at the end, he finish 33 minutes later and not at 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"427\" 1855w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-why-why\">Why, why, why?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason is easy, the query is not every time in a running state and can also be suspended or runnable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"939\" height=\"169\" you a good point to know the status of your shrink with the column percent_complete but don\u2019t use the estimated_completion_time to believe that the shrink will finish in 5 minutes!
