Wanted to make sure your Oracle databases were secured and be informed in case of backup problems?
This blog describes how to quickly get a report sent out on a daily-basis and make it work in Enterprise Manager 13cR5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st Activate gathering of additional metrics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We first need to activate the automatic gathering of additional metrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Targets -> Databases -> Click on the target database<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the database home page \u201cCluster Database\u201d drop down menu, navigate to Monitoring > Metrics and Collection Settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click on the ‘Other Collected Items’ tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Scroll down and search for ‘High Availability Backup History<\/strong>‘ -> click on Disabled<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enable this metric and Set Frequency Type to \u201cBy Minutes\u201d and Repeat Every to \u201c30\u201d Minutes -> Continue -> OK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before EM 13cR5, it might be worth to look at MyOracleSupport (Doc ID 2631059.1) EM 13c: Repository View Sysman.mgmt$db_backup_history Is Empty<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make sure this metric is gathered on a very regular basis, another mean is to create a monitoring template and have apply it by default on your databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Ensure the metric is gathered for each targets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before creating any backup report, we first ensure the \u201cHigh Availability Backup History\u201d metric is gathered for each targets and accessible in the EM Cloud Control 13c Database Repository:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Create the Backup Report<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
We are now ready to create the Backup Report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Go to \u201cEnterprise\u201d menu -> Reports -> Information Publisher Reports
And click on CREATE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3.1 On the (first) \u201cGeneral\u201d tab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • a. Enter Title= DBI-Backup Report<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • b. Select the Category \u201cA_DBI_Heartbeat\u201d
    In case it does not exist, click on \u201cAdd Category\u201d and create a new one named \u201cA_DBI_Heartbeat\u201d. Obviously, no need to create new categories\/subcategories. This only makes it easier to find.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • c. Select the subcategory \u201cA_DBI_Heartbeat\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • d. In case it does not exist, click on \u201cAdd Subcategory\u201d and create a new one \u201cA_DBI_Heartbeat\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • e. Use the specified target
    Target= MYINFRACDB_MYEM3CPDB (actually our OEM database)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • f. Check “Run report using target privileges of the report owner (SYSMAN)”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • g. Uncheck the \u201cThis report has a time period\u201d box<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
    On the \u201cElements\u201d tab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • a. Click on \u201cAdd\u201d and select \u201cStyled Text\u201d, click on Continue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • b. Edit the \u201cStyled Text\u201d element and add in the filed \u201cMessage Text\u201d : \u201cThis report lists the RMAN completed backups.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • c. Click on \u201cAdd\u201d and select \u201cSeparator\u201d, click on Continue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • d. Click on \u201cAdd\u201d and select \u201cTable from SQL\u201d, click on Continue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • e. Edit the \u201cTable from SQL\u201d element and add in the field \u201cHeader\u201d : \u201cElapsed time since last completed backups\u201d. Enter the following \u201cStatement\u201d:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        3.3 On the \u201cSchedule\u201d tab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        • a. Check the \u201cSchedule Report\u201d box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • b. Select the \u201cRepeating\u201d schedule<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • c. Select \u201cBy Days\u201d and enter 1 in the \u201cRepeat Every 1 Days\u201d field to get the report every days<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • d. Set the report date (i.e. Monday morning at 07:00AM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • e. In the \u201cE-mail Report\u201d part, check the \u201cE-mail report each time the scheduled report completes\u201d box<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • f. Enter the sender email address and addressee in the \u201cTo\u201d field<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • g. Enter the subject eg. \u201cDaily Prod. Databases Backups Report\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • h. Click on OK to validate your report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
