{"id":16401,"date":"2021-06-04T12:39:12","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T10:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/sql-server-tips-get-back-permissions-lost-for-mount-points\/"},"modified":"2021-06-04T12:39:12","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T10:39:12","slug":"sql-server-tips-get-back-permissions-lost-for-mount-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/sql-server-tips-get-back-permissions-lost-for-mount-points\/","title":{"rendered":"SQL Server Tips: Get back permissions lost for mount points!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently by a customer, we are facing the case to lose all mount points on a secondary node in a HA SQL Server AlwaysOn infrastructure due to a big problem on the Datacenter.<br \/>\nWe need to build from scratch all mount points for the Data, Log and Tempdb.<br \/>\nAfter multiple researches, I didn\u2019t find how to give back correctly the permission for the SQL Server account on these mount points.<br \/>\nThe disk environment is very simple:<br \/>\nOne drive D: and 3 mount points under the folder D:\\SQLData\\MSQL11.\\MSSQL :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tmpdb<\/li>\n<li>Data<\/li>\n<li>Log<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After attaching the mount points, all permissions are gone.<\/p>\n<p>The first VERY VERY important step is not to go in the security tab after clicking to see the properties but to click on the properties beside the type: Mounted Volume like you can see on this screenshot:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50254 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAfter, go to the security tab and click Edit.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50253 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint02.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAfter you add a new User with the following parameters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Location needs to be the Server name and not the Active Directoy<\/li>\n<li>The Object Name need to be \u201cnt service\\mssql$instance name\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50252 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/mountPoint03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Check the name, click OK and give Full control to the account on the Mount Point.<br \/>\nThis method can be scripted in PowerShell but for one instance on one node, I just do it manually.<\/p>\n<p>Et voila, back to the business with our node and ready to have again High Availability in AlwaysOn!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently by a customer, we are facing the case to lose all mount points on a secondary node in a HA SQL Server AlwaysOn infrastructure due to a big problem on the Datacenter.
