recover access to your Jenkins Admin Dashboard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi team,<\/p>\n<p>I recently installed a Jenkins machine and forgot to create a &#8220;first admin user&#8221;, but I also forgot the password to log in with default admin user (I guess default password was admin but it doesn&#8217;t matter now because I figured out how to log in without it temporarily in order to recover it \ud83d\ude42 )<br \/>\nHere is what you will see below<\/p>\n<h3>Jenkins first installation and admin password location:<\/h3>\n<p>During my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/jenkins-install-jenkins-on-windows\/\">previous blog regarding Jenkins installation<\/a> we saw that the first user we have to connect on Jenkins GUI has its password set under this path ( regarding Linux ):<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: bash; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">\/var\/lib\/jenkins\/secrets\/initialAdminPassword<\/pre>\n<p>for Windows it&#8217;s located under this path:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: actionscript3; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">\u00a0C:\\Program Files\\Jenkins\\jenkins.err.log\nJENKINS_HOME\\secrets&gt;initialAdminPassword<\/pre>\n<p>Once this password in your possession,you can connect for the first time to your Jenkins GUI and then choose if you want to configure an administrator and then add new users.<br \/>\nIn my case I was not able to get back the password as I have updated it.<\/p>\n<h3>Connect without authentication<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A way to allow you connection to your Jenkins master is to update its configuration file:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"brush: javascript; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">\/var\/lib\/jenkins\/config.xml<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"724\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nYou must update the line regarding &#8220;use Security&#8221; from true to <strong>false<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Restarting Jenkins after update<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>After update you have to restart Jenkins then connect on your web instance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[root@serveurctmv900 jenkins]# sudo service jenkins restart<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"46\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Connect to Jenkins user interface and and create an emergency user<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to security configuration part in Jenkins dashboard and check allow anyone to do anything<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"513\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Then you can go to &#8220;create users&#8221; part and create user with admin rights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50153\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"703\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define your user and password<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50154\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"295\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You see now that a new user is here\u00a0 try to connect to Jenkins ,then you can also update admin password if you want<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"705\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"707\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are now connected with your new user ( you can give him right level needed , for this example it will be able to do everything )<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE7adm.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-50158\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/CredTRUE7adm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"731\" height=\"414\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Update your admin password if needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Go to \/user\/admin\/configure ( manage user &#8211;
