{"id":14074,"date":"2020-05-08T14:09:19","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T12:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/control-m-em-job-in-wait-hosts-status\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T14:09:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T12:09:19","slug":"control-m-em-job-in-wait-hosts-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/control-m-em-job-in-wait-hosts-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Control-M\/EM Job in wait hosts status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everybody,<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Today we will try to debug a classic case of schedulers: The wait host status.<\/p>\n<p><u>Context:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>On monitoring domain, one or more jobs are not submitted to the host then are in blue (wait host) status<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><u>Example:<\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"348\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The aim is to know what is happening to this job and fix it<\/p>\n<h2>Analysis<\/h2>\n<p>The aim is to troubleshoot what could be one of the root cause the host in unavailable and fix it<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39388\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><u>Result<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>Job is in \u201cwait host status\u201d (you can also see it in the run information part located under the right panel.)<br \/>\nWe can also read that no machine is available.<\/p>\n<p>Next step is to check if the machine is still alive by making a ping on it<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n<p>You can also use the <strong>nc<\/strong> command to check if communication with agent is opened.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nc -v &lt;server&gt; &lt;port&gt;<\/strong>,<\/p>\n<p>Example : \u00a0nc myserver 7006<\/p>\n<h3><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUENC-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39691\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUENC-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"807\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/u><\/h3>\n<h3><u><\/u>Note: it doesn&#8217;t indicate that agent is running!<\/h3>\n<h3><u>Result<\/u>:<\/h3>\n<p>Ping is OK machine is alive (of course there can be some other parameters like firewall rules or services not activated)<\/p>\n<p>If the machine is available, maybe the issue is from the agent, so we will check it.<\/p>\n<h3>By using CCM<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"818\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39378\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"875\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We note that the agent is unavailable, to have more info we will connect to the machine where the agent is installed<\/p>\n<h3>By Connecting on the agent\u2019s machine<\/h3>\n<p>By connect on the machine with ctm agent user we see that the agent is not running and should be the cause of our trouble<br \/>\nBelow the result after the <strong>ag_diag_comm<\/strong> command (used to check the agent status)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"762\" height=\"594\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If we start it again it can solve the issue.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Restarting the Control-M\/Agent:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"432\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By using CTM utility start-ag\u00a0 and shut-ag<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: bash; [ALL]:\n\n\nStarting the agent as 'root' user\n\nControl-M\/Agent Listener started. pid: 23534\nControl-M\/Agent Tracker started. pid: 23603\n\nControl-M\/Agent started successfully.<\/pre>\n<h3>Check agent status<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"756\" height=\"627\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><u>Result<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>Agent is running successfully, so let\u2019s go back to our blue job in the monitoring domain:<br \/>\nNow we can see that the job has been submitted to the host for execution:<br \/>\nAs soon as we started the agent again, the job could be executed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"882\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To finish, we can check the agent status on the CCM:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUE13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1179\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Agent is OK on CCM and jobs can now be executed.<\/p>\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n<p>This ping from CCM\u00a0 can be performed from the Control-M server in command line:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUENC2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-39692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/JBLUENC2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"904\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;ctmping -HOSTID &lt;server&gt;&#8221;\u00a0 command is more efficient as it\u00a0 takes in account the configuration Control-M\/server and Control-M Agent.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Now ,we have the steps to fix this<em> \u201cwait hosts\u201d<\/em> status , you will be able to correct it quickly&#x1f60a;<\/p>\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n<p>If you have the \u201cno machine available\u201d message and your ping is not OK, please check with <strong>your<\/strong> system admin to get the server where the agent is installed up again<strong>. <\/strong>Then check if <strong>agent could be started successfully.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Feel free to check our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/bloggers\/\">dbi\u2019s bloggers<\/a> to have more tips and tricks, and also you can have a look on BMC site.<\/p>\n<p>See you for the next blog , don&#8217;t forget to share and comment!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everybody, Introduction Today we will try to debug a classic case of schedulers: The wait host status.
