{"id":12491,"date":"2019-06-06T13:34:25","date_gmt":"2019-06-06T11:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/discover-target-database-18c-with-em12c\/"},"modified":"2019-06-06T13:34:25","modified_gmt":"2019-06-06T11:34:25","slug":"discover-target-database-18c-with-em12c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/discover-target-database-18c-with-em12c\/","title":{"rendered":"Discover target database 18c with EM12c"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Working on Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4 version at a client&#8217;s site, we would like to know if oracle database target in 18c version could be discovered and monitored, even if Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4 does not support Oracle 18c database targets.<\/p>\n<p>Installing the agent 12c on the target host did not cause any problem, the oracle database 18c discovery ran successfully, but the database was seen as down in the Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4 console.<\/p>\n<p>We tried several tricks without any positive results, but running the following command shows us that this was a connection problem:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: false; first-line: 1\"><\/pre>\n<div>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: false; first-line: 1\">oracle@em12c:\/home\/oracle\/:&gt; emctl getmetric agent DB18,oracle_database,Response\nOracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 4\nCopyright (c) 1996, 2014 Oracle Corporation.\nAll rights reserved.\nStatus,State,oraerr,Archiver,DatabaseStatus,ActiveState0,UNKNOWN,\nFailed to connect: java.sql.SQLException: \nORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol,UNKNOWN,UNKNOWN,UNKNOWN\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif\">\nWith Oracle 18c, the default value for SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION parameter is 12, it means that database clients using pre-12c jdbc thin drivers cannot authenticate to 18c database servers.<\/span>\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>The workaround is to add in the database server sqlnet.ora the following lines:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: false; first-line: 1\">SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION_SERVER=11\nSQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION_CLIENT=11<\/pre>\n<p>We restart the database and the agent, and the Oracle database 18c is displayed up and running in Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/em12c.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32757\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/em12c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"922\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some more tests showed us that everything is working fine: incident management, performance, top activity ..aso<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless do not forget that oracle database target version 18c are not supported with Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4.
