Oracle ASM uses the filter driver to validate write I\/O requests to Oracle ASM disks.<\/p>\n<p>In this blog I will explain how to setup a Grid Infrastructure software within AFD on an architecture SIHA or CRS<\/p>\n<p><strong>Case1. You want to configure AFD from very beginning (no UDEV, no ASMLib) with SIHA, Single Instance High Availability installation (former Oracle Restart)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Issue :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If we want to use AFD driver from very beginning, we should use Oracle AFD to prepare some disks for the ASM instance,<br \/>\nThe issue is coming from the fact that AFD will be available just after the installation (can be configured before the installation)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step1<\/strong>. Install GI stack in software only mode<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/setup_soft_only.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27659\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/setup_soft_only.png\" alt=\"setup_soft_only\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step2<\/strong>. Run root.sh when is prompted, without any other action(do not execute generated script rootUpgrade.sh)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step3<\/strong>. As root user proceed to configure AFD<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\"> \/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/crsctl stop has -f\n\/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/asmcmd afd_configure\n\/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/crsctl start has<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step5.<\/strong>\u00a0 Setup AFD string to discover new devices , as grid user<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\"> \/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/asmcmd afd_dsset '\/dev\/sd*'<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step6<\/strong>. Label new disk as root<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\"> \/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/asmcmd afd_label DISK1 \/dev\/sdb1<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step7<\/strong>. As grid user, launch ASMCA , to create your ASM instance, based on the diskgroup created on the new labeled disk , DISK1<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/disk_AFD1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27661\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/disk_AFD1.png\" alt=\"disk_AFD\" width=\"300\" height=\"159\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/disk_AFD.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/disk_AFD.png\" alt=\"disk_AFD\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step8<\/strong>. Display AFD driver\u00a0 within HAS stack.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/check_res.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27662\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/check_res.png\" alt=\"check_res\" width=\"300\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Case2. You want to configure AFD from very beginning (no UDEV, no ASMLib) with CRS : Cluster Ready Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Issue<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<p>By installing on software-only mode, you will just copy and relink the binaries.<br \/>\nNo wrapper scripts are created as (<strong>crsctl<\/strong> or <strong>clsecho<\/strong>).<br \/>\nThe issue consists that AFD needs wrapper scripts and not the binaries (<strong>crsctl.bin<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step1<\/strong>.Do it on <strong>all<\/strong> nodes.<\/p>\n<p>Install Grid Infrastructure on the all nodes of the future cluster in the mode \u201cSoftware-only Installation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/setup_soft_only.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27659\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/setup_soft_only.png\" alt=\"setup_soft_only\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step2<\/strong>. Do it on <strong>all<\/strong> nodes.<\/p>\n<p>After the installation the wrapper scripts are not present. You can copy from any other installation (SIHA too) or use a cloned home.<\/p>\n<p>After getting the two scripts , modify the variables inside them to be aligned with your current system used for installation:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\"><strong>ORA_CRS_HOME<\/strong>=\/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid  --should be changed\n<strong>MY_HOST<\/strong>=dbi1 \u2013should be changed\nORACLE_USER=grid\nORACLE_HOME=$ORA_CRS_HOME\nORACLE_BASE=\/u01\/app\/oracle\n<strong>CRF_HOME<\/strong>=\/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid \u2013should be changed\n\n<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step3<\/strong>. Do it on <strong>all<\/strong> nodes<\/p>\n<p>Configure AFD :<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: sql; gutter: true; first-line: 1\">[root@dbi1 grid]# \/u01\/app\/grid\/product\/12.2.0\/grid\/bin\/asmcmd afd_configure\nAFD-627: AFD distribution files found.\nAFD-634: Removing previous AFD installation.\nAFD-635: Previous AFD components successfully removed.\nAFD-636: Installing requested AFD software.\nAFD-637: Loading installed AFD drivers.\nAFD-9321: Creating udev for AFD.\nAFD-9323: Creating module dependencies - this may take some time.\nAFD-9154: Loading 'oracleafd.ko' driver.\nAFD-649: Verifying AFD devices.\nAFD-9156: Detecting control device '\/dev\/oracleafd\/admin'.\nAFD-638: AFD installation correctness verified.\nModifying resource dependencies - this may take some time.\n\n<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step4<\/strong>. Do it on the <strong>other<\/strong> nodes.<\/p>\n<p>Scan and display the disks on the other nodes of the future cluster. Do it on <strong>1st<\/strong> node<\/p>\n<p>You will be asked to create a ASM diskgroup.<\/p>\n<p>Normally without doing previous steps , will not be possible , as no udev no ASMLib no AFD configured. So no labeled disks for that step.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/create_asm_DG.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27677\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/create_asm_DG.png\" alt=\"create_asm_DG\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step9<\/strong>. Do it on <strong>1st<\/strong> node<\/p>\n<p>Change discovery path to \u2018AFD:*\u2019and should retrieve the disks labeled on the previous step.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/afd_path.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27678\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/afd_path.png\" alt=\"afd_path\" width=\"300\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step10<\/strong>.
