{"id":10312,"date":"2017-07-11T06:48:28","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T04:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/sql-server-2016-patching-cu-with-r-services\/"},"modified":"2017-07-11T06:48:28","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T04:48:28","slug":"sql-server-2016-patching-cu-with-r-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/sql-server-2016-patching-cu-with-r-services\/","title":{"rendered":"SQL Server 2016: patching CU with R Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a good DBA, I begin to be up to date with all Cumulative Update (CU) by my customers.<br \/>\nIt is the first time that I run an update for SQL Server 2016 with the CU 3.<br \/>\nI download the CU on Microsoft website and I begin my patching campaign on all SQL server 2016 instances.<\/p>\n<p>The first one is quick &amp; successful.<br \/>\nThe second one, with R Services, is a little bit different.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-17486 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_01.png\" alt=\"SQL2016CU3_01\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After, the features\u2019 selection, you need to accept the &#8220;R services download&#8221;.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-17484 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_02.png\" alt=\"SQL2016CU3_02\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Servers are not able to go to Internet to download the R services package.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-17485 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_03.png\" alt=\"SQL2016CU3_03\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new step appears<strong> &#8220;Offline Installation of Microsoft R Open and Microsoft R Server&#8221;<\/strong> with 2 links reference to download 2 packages.<br \/>\nI advise you to download both. SRO_xxx is for Microsoft R Open and SRS_xxx is for Microsoft R Server. It is not necessary but I think, it is every time good to have all packages for a build.<br \/>\nAfter, you have just to copy the two cab files to your server and select the folder in the update window.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-17483 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dbi-services.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/SQL2016CU3_04.png\" alt=\"SQL2016CU3_04\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The installation of the Cumulative Update continues like usual.<br \/>\nThis link <a title=\"the Microsoft R Open and Microsoft R Server per build\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/advanced-analytics\/r\/installing-ml-components-without-internet-access\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, give you the list of the Microsoft R Open and Microsoft R Server per build.
