I had the chance to participate yesterday to the Dbvisit Partner Summit 2026 in Paris. We had the opportunity to attend some great sessions, have excellent discussions about the product’s current offerings for Oracle Standard Edition databases, and enjoy a fantastic day cruising along the Seine. I really have to say it again, dbvisit has the real ability to keep the product roadmap evolving dynamically to always propose Oracle SE database customers new interesting solutions. Last but not least, I’m always so impressed how dbvisit team keeps being focus on customer satisfaction. A real pleasure. Thanks Alex, Jan, Radu, Elias, Mark and all the team for the invitation.

Great sessions

We had the opportunity to participate to great sessions. We discussed about some customer use cases, as for example having multiple standby. Such configuration are easy to implement and the product gives the facility to ship the archived log from the primary to multiple standby, which is the recommended configuration, or even cascading standby, having one standby been updated through another standby. The only catch is that, after performing a switchover, you need to manually update the other standby databases with the new source hostname. Also, all your standby databases need to be recreated from scratch after a failover. Of course, with Standard Edition, there is no Flashback Database, so there is no reinstate. A failover also results in a new database incarnation. I could really recall some of our customers configuration during those discussions.

We also discussed about the need to have all customer old version 9, 10 and 11 upgraded to version 12.

There were also some good discussions for new VIP implementations simplifying the application connection after a switchover. There is mainly several solutions for connecting the database from the application side without having to change anything for the business after a switchover:

Connection with address list using an oracle service that would only be started on primary. If and only if the application supports it. The same could be done for standby database connection used for reporting.
Have a Virtual IP address created and automatically started on the primary database host
Network alias

The objective to have all managed automatically on the database side with no change on the application connection string.

Let’s wait for a great new feature on dbvisit having the possibility to create and administrate those configurations directly from the GUI. GUI which could monitor the oracle services and the VIP.

We also discussed the snapshot capabilities provided by Dbvisit. I took the opportunity to reiterate how great it would be to have ACFS snapshots supported. This would help all our ODA customers avoid having them to rely on third-party scripts.

Zero Data Loss

We also had the chance to discuss about the great new functionality of dbvisit : Zero Data Loss.

This feature will give the opportunity for Standard Edition 2 Oracle database customer to improve a lot their RPO, reducing dramatically the data loss after a disaster. This will give Standard Edition customers the ability to get closed to data service availability proposed by the Enterprise Edition.

How it works? The archived log shipment thread would remain and we would have an additional redo log shipment thread to have the redo as well synchronized. The redo on the standby side would only be used, after a failover to apply last redo transactions.

What is also good is that a low RPO would also help to improve the RTO. And we could even activate it in a multiple standby databases environment. And what about a standby database configured with delay? We can also activate ZDL with a standby database configured with delay as the software will allow us to apply all last archive log and last redo transaction after activating it.

This feature needs to be activated with an additional license.
